What Is the Independent Compensation Program?

The Independent Compensation Program is an independent settlement program being run by two nationally recognized claims administrators. The goal of the program is to acknowledge the wrongs that clerical sexual abuse survivors have suffered and the failure of the Dioceses to prevent that harm and provide support for victims/survivors abused as minors by priests of the following, collectively known as the Dioceses:

The administrators of the program review all claims on a rolling basis, request additional documentation if necessary, process, evaluate, and make a determination on each claim, and authorize a payout for each claim determined to be valid.

Who Is Eligible for Compensation from the Independent Compensation Program?

If you have been abused as a minor by a priest in one of the Dioceses listed above, you may be eligible for compensation under the program. You also may be eligible if:

  • The statute of limitations (time limit imposed by law) has run on your sexual abuse claim
  • You have not yet reported the abuse to the Catholic Church
  • You are an undocumented immigrant with no proof of citizenship
